*** Searching for PhD program students *** (Please re-distribute this information) ************************ NOTE ! *************************** We are trying to find suitable students who are interested in applied cryptography and wish to work hard. Cryptography is an important research field all over the world. Most especially, it gradually becomes necessary for almost all digital or network oriented applications. ************************************************************* We try to find some new PhD program students with good potential and with enough background related to cryptography or information security. Especially, we welcome students who wish to work hard and wish to take challenge. Most importantly, we strongly expect the students can have their own worldwide platform, but not only within Taiwan, after receiving their PhD degree. All PhD students are requested to present 2 or more papers at internationally renowned cryptographic conferences. Below are some questions that help me to identify who might be suitable for our laboratory. The questions can also help you to make decision on whether our laboratory fits your interest. Please think about it before writing me e-mail. ------------------------------------------------------ Please visit our laboratory (Room A312, telephone number 03-4227151 ext 35331) if possible and try to understand what kind of research and work we did in the past few years. Especially, to understand my request/expectation on PhD students. If you are still interested in our research lab, then please think about the following questions. (1) Do you like to have the chance to work together with foreign researchers (of course in English)? We usually have some cooperation with university or institute outside Taiwan. (2) Do you wish to work hard to be on the top rank of a research field, not only in Taiwan but also worldwide? I personally think that our lab is good enough in the field of applied cryptography and computer security. So, we urgently need good PhD students who wish to work hard. (3) Do you wish and have the basic capability to review good papers frequently? We served usually for many renowned international conferences (and journals) for papers review. So, you will be assigned many papers each year to review and to prepare very high quality review reports. ------------------------------------------------------ Our recent research interests cover the following topics: (1) IC card physical cryptanalysis (including power monitoring attack, timing attack, hardware fault attack, etc.) and all kinds of countermeasure development and evaluation. (2) Cryptographic schemes with provable security. (3) Fast implementation/algorithm issues of public key cryptography (including exponentiation, modular multiplication, and some others especially for preventing physical cryptanalysis). (4) Electronic payment schemes, new application development and security analysis. (5) Digital signature, new system development and applications. (6) Authentication protocols. (7) Some other application oriented or theoretical topics on cryptography, information security, or network security.
